Venue: Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney, Co. Dublin

Guest speakers

  • Marie Louise Heffernan: ‘From terns to turbines: Sustaining Dublin bay’s rich ecology’
Marie Louise is a Chartered Environmental Scientist (CEnv) and full member of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (MCIEEM) and holds over 30 years of experience as an ecologist. A Trinity College Dublin graduate, she established Aster Environmental Consultants in 2002. She was a government-appointed member of the Board of Directors of Inland Fisheries Ireland (2019 to 2022). A nationally recognised expert in the Habitats Directive, she specialises in biodiversity planning in the coastal zone, has experience in marine breeding birds and her overall interest is balancing sustainable development with environmental protection.

  • Dr Michael O’Meara, Blue Horizon
Michael is a Director of Blue Horizon, a citizens’ group based in Waterford. He has a longstanding appreciation of nature and the sea and holds the record for kayaking solo around Ireland, a record held since 2015. He brings this passion for nature and his knowledge of the sea and coastal environment to the Blue Horizon campaign which calls for a 22km turbine-free zone off the Waterford coast in order to protect marine biodiversity, the local fishing economy, seascapes and tourism interests. During the course of his work for Blue Horizon, he has amassed knowledge and experience of many aspects of the offshore wind industry and its management in Ireland.
