DESCRIPTION:Killiney Beach spring clean-up 2023\nThanks to the lovely bunch of volunteers who joined us on 11 February 2023 for the first official KBCC beach clean-up of this year. We kicked off from the Lifeguard Hut at the usual time of 11.00am and scoured the beach for an hour finding all sorts of stuff that just doesn’t live on a beach. \nAre you a beach-goer who likes a good clean beach? Dublin \n\nGuest speakers\n\nMarie Louise Heffernan: ‘From terns to turbines: Sustaining Dublin bay’s rich ecology’\nMarie Louise is a Chartered Environmental Scientist (CEnv) and full member of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (MCIEEM) and holds over 30 years of experience as an ecologist. A Trinity College Dublin graduate\, she established Aster Environmental Consultants in 2002. She was a government-appointed member of the Board of Directors of Inland Fisheries Ireland (2019 to 2022). A nationally recognised expert in the Habitats Directive\, she specialises in biodiversity planning in the coastal zone\, has experience in marine breeding birds and her overall interest is balancing sustainable development with environmental protection.\n\n  \n\nDr Michael O’Meara\, Blue Horizon\nMichael is a Director of Blue Horizon\, a citizens’ group based in Waterford. He has a longstanding appreciation of nature and the sea and holds the record for kayaking solo around Ireland\, a record held since 2015. He brings this passion for nature and his knowledge of the sea and coastal environment to the Blue Horizon campaign which calls for a 22km turbine-free zone off the Waterford coast in order to protect marine biodiversity\, the local fishing economy\, seascapes and tourism interests.
